Use an informative opening
Choose a country near the centre of a large landmass rather than an extreme island. A first guess around Europe, the Middle East, or central Africa separates major regions more clearly than a corner of the map.
Do not chase a colour without checking the distance. A warmer shade is progress, but comparing the exact numbers tells you how large the jump really was.
Finish with neighbours
Once the clue is very hot, list the guessed country's neighbours. Shared-border results are decisive. For islands, think about the nearest coastlines and island chains rather than political regions alone.
